Post Match Thoughts Columbus Crew 2-0 Philadelphia Union

Philadelphia Union capped off a busy week as they played their 3rd game in a week on Saturday night. During their 2nd straight away game, Columbus Crew ended our unbeaten streak of 3 games. This 2-0 loss keeps us last in standings with 5 points. The playoff qualifiers positions are currently sitting 7 points ahead.

First Half Review

Columbus Crew came out the gates blazing with a goal in the 5' minute by Max Aftsten. He almost doubled their lead seconds later but Andre Blake pulled off an impressive save. Union were on the attack for the rest of the half with Iloski hitting the woodwork on the 15' minute. They had more chances after but they just couldn't find the net. In stoppage time of the first half, Harriel tried blocking a pass into the box but misjudged it and scored an own goal right before half time.

Second Half Review

Union couldn't find many opportunities with their sole chance that made Columbus' crew work coming in the 64' minute. The game was coming to an end with not many chances being created. Sery would end up scoring an unnecessary red card in the 5th minute of stoppage time which creates more problems for the boys in blue as they face Nashville SC at home on Saturday night.

Takeaways

Union were just not present at today's game. Creating little to no action, they'll need to regroup this following week. Once again, Damiani provided nothing for our team and seems to prove himself as a useless transfer. This poor form needs to end soon to salvage any hops off a playoff run. Next week, we'll be facing 1st place team Nashville SC in a battle of David vs Goliath. We didn't have much hope going into the game against Toronto and salvaged a decent result so hopefully we can do the same against Nashville. This game will most likely be a matter of damage control and not conceding too many goals.
