Post Match Thoughts CF Montreal 1-2 Philadelphia Union

Philadelphia Union faced 14th place Montreal on Saturday at Saputo Stadium in Canada for a clash between the bottom of the table. Both teams have had a horrible start to this season in MLS and need all the points they can get. Philadelphia in particular are 0-6 before this game.

First Half Review

Philly started off strong as they held control for the first 10 minutes. Montreal were awarded a penalty on the 13' minute but was denied after further VAR review as Andre Blake got a touch on the ball. 10 minutes later, Montreal's Iván Jaime put the ball in the back of the net to let Montreal go one goal clear of Philadelphia. As the whistle was blown, Philadelphia went to their locker rooms trailing by a goal once again

Second Half Review

Philly netted an equalizer ten minutes into the 2nd half through Union's Sery Larsen.  A huge goal gave the boys in blue some hope as the scored was leveled once more. 15 minutes later, Jesús Bueno whipped it into the net to help Union lead for the first time this season. After that, Both teams had a few close chances like Bedoya's header and Montreals late free kick but nothing came of it. As the full time whistle was blown, the boys in blue could celebrate for the first time this season as they've broken their 6 game pointless streak.

What's Next?

This is huge for our hops of playoffs. We still have a long way to go but this can mark a shift in momentum. Here's what our Bradley Carnell had to say post game

We must not celebrate too much. Going 0-6 to start off a season is horrible. We must not forget the bigger issues. We currently sit 4 points off the last playoff qualifier which is DC United. Ironically enough, we play them next week. This game will be huge for our playoff bid. If we manage to beat DC, we might have an actual shot at that playoffs. Unions season has started NOW. What they do with it is up to the team.
