Post Match Thoughts Philadelphia Union 0-0 Nashville SC

Philadelphia Union faced points leaders, Nashville SC on Saturday night. A case of David vs Goliath, they seemed destined to get destroyed. Coming off a 2-0 loss against Columbus Crew, moral seemed low. Union has home advantage for this game at Subaru Park but home advantage has proved to be much of a difference for the boys in blue this season.

First Half Review

Union came swinging out the gates surprisingly as they seemed to be in Nashville's half majority of the time. A huge factor to this could be due to the fact that Nashville were playing their B team. Their best players like Espinoza or Mukhtar were on the bench to start the game. Cavan Sullivan was a starter for the third time this season. He proved to be a handful to the Nashville defense as he made many runs and played a few dangerous passes into the box but the score stayed leveled at the end of the first half

Second Half Review

The second half featured more of the same with Nashville having a few more attacks. Both Anello and Vassilev hit the post. Andre Blake had a crucial save on the 74th minute. Damiani was subbed in on and he did a whole lot of nothing including missing a potential game winning shot on the 86th minute. Union had a corner at the end of stoppage time but nothing came of it with the score ending 0-0.

Takeaways

Union came into this game being hopeful for any points. Leaving Subaru Park with another point is crucial as it leaves us beaten only once in the last 5 games. After facing 1st place team in our conference, we now face 2nd place team New England Revolution. We'll most likely have the same mindset once more of hoping to leave with any points. This was probably our best all around lineup this season. We played calm and smart. The absence of Damiani didn't make a difference to goals being scored but we had more chances.
